Jubilee Platinum plc is a mining exploration and development company with a focus on platinum group metal (PGM) and nickel/copper.
Jubilee has developed a prospective portfolio of platinum projects, strategically placed within South Africa’s Bushveld Complex, a geological system unmatched worldwide which produces 80% of the World’s platinum
The Company’s prime asset in South Africa is the Tjate project which has an inferred resource of some 65m oz of PGMs and gold, and is contiguous to existing mining operations: Anglo Platinum’s Twickenham and Impala Platinum’s Marula mines.
Jubilee is also looking to capitalise on the vast untapped mineral wealth of Madagascar where it is developing three potentially world-class nickel/copper/PGM assets. Having been operating in Madagascar prior to listing in 2002, Jubilee are forerunners in a country that is proving to be of increasing interest to the majors. Jubilee is dedicated to sustainable development and adhering to the highest environmental standards.
The company is also a great believer in the role of foreign direct investment as a key form of social development in developing African countries.
Why Platinum?
SOUTH AFRICA
Tjate -
Jubilee has acquired a strategic 25% interest in Black Economic Empowered (BEE) Tjate Platinum Corporation (Pty) Ltd (“Tjate”) for ZAR35 million with a right to subscribe for a further 10% interest on expenditure of ZAR14 million towards exploration and a feasibility study.
Tjate holds old order prospecting rights on three contiguous farms in the eastern Bushveld, namely Dsjate, Fernkloof and Quartz Hill which are down dip of Implats’ operating Marula PGM mine and Anglo Platinum’s Twickenham PGM project, which is being developed. The Tjate property is inferred to contain some 65 million oz PGMs plus gold, of which some 23 million oz is attributable to Jubilee. The application for conversion of the old order rights has been accepted by the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME) and the granting of the converted rights are believed to be imminent.
Drilling on the Dsjate farm has intersected both the Merensky and the UG2 chromitite reefs at expected depths and with PGM grades generally at the top end of expectations.
Drilling (two holes DT1 and DT2 completed and a third in progress) on the Dsjate farm has intersected both the Merensky and the UG2 chromitite reefs at expected depths and with PGM grades generally at the top end of expectations.
The Dullstroom Platinum -
The Dullstroom Platinum (Pty.) Ltd. tenement area, comprising of more than 2500 hectares is located on the eastern edge of the Bushveld Igneous Complex (BIC), in the vicinity of the hamlet of Tonteldoos some 20 kilometers north of Dullstroom, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.
The two major PGM bearing reefs within the BIC, the Merensky and UG2, outcrop to the north of the tenement area, and host Anglo Platinum’s De Brochen Mine and Aquarius’ Everest South Project only 21km north of the area of interest. The Merensky and UG2 reefs have been mapped on the farm Kliprivier 73JT, some 7 kilometers to the NNE of the tenement block, before being obscured to the south by Transvaal Supergroup cover i.e. the roof /hangingwall to the BIC intrusive. An anomalous regional gravity high strongly suggests that the BIC extends below the Transvaal Supergroup cover in the area, and is further postulated to extend southwards below Transvaal and Karoo sediment cover towards the direction of Bethel.
Maudde Mining and Exploration -
Jubilee’s Bokfontein JQ448 and Elandsdrift JQ467 PGM properties in the western Bushveld are drill ready and await new order prospecting rights, the granting of which are believed to be imminent.
Other properties in Jubilee’s portfolio include Buffelsvallei JS170/Zaaiplaats JS157 in the Groblersdal district and the Sallies SlootKS718/Swartkop KS720 near Marble Hall all located in to the west of the eastern limb of the Bushveld. The granting of new order prospecting rights are similarly believed to be imminent.
MADAGASCAR
Londokomanana -
The Company has carried out several phases of exploration including stream sediment and soil sampling, trenching and geophysics, which have identified an inferred 22-kilometre total strike length of potential world-class magnitude nickel-copper mineralised system over north (Antsahabe) and south (Lavatrafo) Londokomanana.
The geophysics overlie and add to those areas, in which Jubilee has previously identified high nickel and platinum values from its geochemical sampling and trenching work: Peak trench values have been obtained in Lavatrafo of up to 4.62g/t 2PGE (platinum and palladium) plus gold, 1.2% nickel and 0.39% copper.
The Company has drilled two boreholes, LAV1 and LAV2 in the Lavatrafo property (south Londokomanana) on targets identified by the geophysics and geochemistry.
Ambodilafa -
Reconnaissance exploration in Ambodilafa has identified a major largely unexplored ultrabasic intrusion, some 20km N-S long and 4km E-W wide, where previous limited drilling in the 1970s by the Bureau de Recherché des Minerais (BRGM) included a 93m intersection of disseminated pentlandite and chalcopyrite sulphides averaging 1% copper equivalent. A geophysics programme with follow up drilling is scheduled for fourth quarter 2005 (refer photo 1).
The reconnaissance also discovered new gold mineralisation in the historic Bebasy mine area (south west corner of the Ambodilafa concession), in which mined historic grades of 13 to 18 g/t gold were reported. (Refer photo 2)
Chip samples taken from newly exposed quartz veins in the area showed 42g/t and 108g/t gold.
Lanjanina -
The Lanjanina concession lies in the south-central part of Madagascar approximately 180 kilometres ( 258 road km.) south of Antananarivo and 35 km ( 55 road km.) west of Ambositra, and covers an area of 156 km2 (15,600 hectares).
SEIRRA LEONE
Jubilee is in joint venture with AIM listed Golden Prospect plc on its York PGM Project in Sierra Leone. The property covers the central section of the Freetown Layered Gabbro Complex, an area with a history of artisanal platinum production.
A reconnaissance programme in early 2004 extended the known mineralisation (soil samples assaying previously up to 0.84g/t) of an anomalous 2m-wide PGM zone to 8.5km strike length from 5km with similar elevated PGMs in soil samples. A second-phase programme of trenching was completed in 2005, the results for which are in progress.
