Company Statement

Kiwara PLC is a mining exploration and development company, focusing on Nickel-Cobalt Copper and Uranium.

The company’s prime asset is an interest in mineral Prospecting Licence 267 which covers an area of 5,500 km² on the periphery of the Kabombo Dome in north western Zambia.

kiwara's strategy has been to collate all previous data and apply modern analytical techniques to verify what has already been discovered, to determine if previous interpretations are valid and to seek strike and up-dip extensions beyond previously known mineralised zones, which regional experience suggests are likely to exist and which has been supported by the Company’s recent drilling results.

  • Kiwara PLC (“Kiwara”) is a JSE and AIM listed exploration company.
  • Kiwara was formed following the reverse takeover by Kiwara Resources Ltd (BVI) of Wadharma Investments PLC, which transaction is described in detail in our Admission Document (Dated 6th July 2007) and was approved by Wadharma Investments PLC shareholders at an EGM on 3rd August 2007.
  • Kiwara listed on the JSE 3rd April 2008. The pre-listing statement is available here.

Kiwara is the beneficial owner of 75% of the issued share capital of Kiwara Resources (Zambia), with The New African Mining Fund owning the 25% balance, having paid an aggregate price of 10,000,000 Rand. NAMF has an option to convert their holding in Kiwara Resources (Zambia) to Kiwara plc shares.
Kiwara Resources (Zambia) currently holds 75% of the issued share capital of Kalumbila Minerals Limited, which is the joint venture company between Kiwara and the Company’s Zambian partners, LM Engineering Ltd who hold the 25% balance.
Licence 267 (the ‘‘Licence’’) granted by the Ministry of Mines and Minerals of the Republic of Zambia (the ‘‘Ministry’’), which currently covers an area of 5,500 km² on the periphery of the Kabompo Dome in north western Zambia, was originally issued in September 2005 to LM Engineering Ltd. At the first renewal in September 2007 it was reissued to Kalumbila Minerals Ltd.
Although the area covered by the Licence has to varying degrees been the subject of previous exploration work, Kiwara should be classed as an early stage exploration company. This is because none of the deposits have been categorised to prevailing internationally recognised standards. There is, however, considerable information available on previous work undertaken by various major mining companies from 1929 through to this decade which has identified nickel, cobalt, copper and uranium.
The Company is using its existing cash resources, the proceeds of the 2007 Placing and the NAMF Investment to fund the ongoing exploration and drilling programme. The overriding strategy has been to allocate these funds to optimise exploration activity and enable categorisation of the most important deposits within the Licence Area to internationally recognisable standards, in order to prepare the Company for a significant further round of fundraising when deemed necessary by the Company and its advisors.

Kiwara PLC Projects
The company’s prime asset is an interest in mineral Prospecting Licence 267 which covers an area of 5,500 km² on the periphery of the Kabombo Dome in north western Zambia.

The Licence Area includes three deposits previously drill-investigated – the Kalumbila Nickel-Cobalt-Copper, Kawanga Uranium, and Kawako Nickel-Copper deposits.

Kalumbila Project

  • Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, U
  • Prospecting Licence 267
  • North Western Zambia

The Kalumbila mineralization is known over a strike length of 11 km. The historic RST drilling focused on the north eastern part, where historic estimations were in the range of 0.96 - 8.00 million tonnes at grades of 0.55% - 0.88% nickel, 0.20% - 0.30% cobalt and 0.11% - 0.15% copper.

The high grade part of the nickel is in the proximity of the Kalumbila fault zone and is present in a series of lenses, 2 to 26 metres thick, with cobalt association.

The known Kalumbila mineralization is being reconstructed from the historic data base has been validated by drilling and ground EM programmes. Further exploratory drilling is being conducted towards the south west to investigate promising anomalies within the strike extent.

Kawanga Project

  • U
  • Prospecting Licence 267
  • North Western Zambia

The Kawanga uranium mineralization was identified and drilled by AGIP over a strike length of some 1,000m in the five year period from the early 1970's. As access to the historic database has not yet been obtained, the known mineralization is being re-drilled and subject to a ground radio-metric survey.

On the basis that this work establishes grades and thickness of U3O8 that support further work; the Company will complete a drilling programme to establish a SAMREC compliant mineral resource, with a view to conducting pre-feasibility studies in 2009.

Kawako Project
  • Co, Ni, Cu
  • Prospecting Licence 267
  • North Western Zambia

Kawako is 12km NW of Kalumbila and is in a similar geological setting - a carbonaceous shale unit within the quartzites which have been historically correlated to the Lower Roan series of the Katangan supergroup.

Kawako was the subject of an Anglo American soil geo-chemistry programme, the detail of which was reported in 1995 and a subsequent drilling programme, the details of which are not available. Whilst conducting regional exploration Kiwara has established the presence of nickel at Kawako by the assaying of rock chips from a historic drill collar - these assayed at grades of 1.35% and 1.42% Ni.

The Company is increasing its geo-chemistry programme additionally assaying for cobalt and copper.
