Whetstone Minerals Inc. is a Canadian junior mineral exploration company with properties in Manitoba and Ontario.
Exploration is focused on base and precious metal sulphides; magmatic nickel, platinum group elements, VMS-style copper and zinc, and gold.
Eppler Lake, Manitoba
Located in NE Manitoba 110 kilometres west of Churchill, the Eppler Project offers both Cu-Zn and Ni-Cu massive sulphide potential on a regional scale. A detailed interpretation of the airborne VTEM survey completed over the Eppler project has resulted in the selection of several top priority drill targets for VMS-style Cu-Zn mineralization on the western portion of the property. In addition, review of the VTEM data has highlighted the potential for nickel sulphide and PGE mineralization over the large ultramafic complex located on the eastern side of the property. A drill camp is in place and in excellent condition.
The project area lies within the Great Island Domain of the Archean Seal River greenstone belt along the northern margin of the Trans Hudson Orogen.
PipeStone Project
Located in the Kenora district between the Cameron Lake gold deposit (Nuinsco Resources) in the north and the Zone 17 gold deposit (Rainy River Resources) in the south, the project provides opportunity to extend the known gold prospects as well as make new discoveries on the known gold trends. A major road and power line are located adjacent to the property with numerous smaller access roads throughout the region. Rail access is located 60 kilometres to the south.
Previous workers successfully outlined several important prospects, however, large portions of the project area remain unexplored or underexplored using modern exploration techniques. Two regional gold structures, the Pipestone and the Manitou Stretch, transcend the project and provide excellent opportunity to investigate the regional-scale gold potential of the area. In addition, the area is also highly prospective for volcanic hosted massive sulphide mineralization as found at Off Lake and Ni-Cu and PGE mineralization associated with extensive mafic-ultramafic intrusive rocks.
In 2007, the Company completed a property wide high resolution aeromagnetic survey. This survey, in association with the known property geology, provided a basis for a detailed structural interpretive study investigating the potential for unrecognized gold environments within the project area.
Warclub Lake, Ontario
Warclub, located in the Kenora district, lies 16 kilometres north of Whetstone's Pipestone project, and 3 kilometres from Canadian Arrows Mines Ltd. Kenbridge sulphide nickel deposit which is currently under development.
The WarClub property has not been extensively explored. In the 1950's, Inco and Falconbridge completed six reconnaissance holes. In 2004, Western Warrior Resources completed a 4,395 line kilometre high resolution aeromagnetic survey followed in 2006 by a 1,887 line kilometre AeroTEM III electromagnetic survey. The survey detected numerous formational and non-formational conductive trends and associated magnetic features for follow up ground investigation. In 2008, prospecting of the conductors was initiated but not completed. A mafic intrusion with associated strong AEM and magnetic responses was identified and recommended for drill testing. Two holes were completed and semi-massive sulphides associated with the footwall sediments were intersected. Assay results are pending.
In 2009, in addition to the continued prospecting of the short strike length conductors for Ni sulphide mineralization, the regional formational conductors interpreted to represent iron formation will be investigated for their gold potential.
Redvers Gold, NW Ontario
The Redvers property is located in the Kenora district and covers 15 kilometres of strike of a newly interpreted greenstone belt. The property lies 20 kilometers north of the Trans Canada Highway and has very good primary and secondary road access.
The geology is dominated by a suite of Archean tonalites, granodiorites, and quartz diorties hosted in altered volcanics. The intrusions host several Mo and Au-Ag showings, including the Clay Lake showing which has a historic assay of 13.6 opt Au in the volcanics (unconfirmed by Whetstone). In 2005, the Ontario Geological Survey examined many of the showings and collected one sample of 1.10 opt gold and 33.00 opt silver from a showing in Redvers Township.
In 2007, Whetstone completed a 2,492 line kilometers high resolution aeromagnetic survey and identified a thirteen kilometre east to west trending magnetic feature interpreted to represent a greenstone belt environment. Planned work for 2009 will focus on investigation for gold mineralization within the greenstone belt by mapping and sampling directed towards identification of drill targets.
