Van Dieman Mines plc owns 13 exploration and retention licences in Tasmania and was admitted to London’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in November 2004.
The Scotia, Central Ringarooma and Great Northern Plains areas constitute a tin and gem based resource in excess of 100 million cubic meters. Further areas immediately adjoining the Great Northern Plains resource are estimated to contain in excess of 39 million cubic meters while offshore, extending into Bass Strait, a tin mineralisation zone of some 200 million cubic meters has been delineated.
These alluvial mineral resources encompass a number of discrete project areas. Some deposits such as Endurance and Pioneer which form part of the Central Ringarooma area are "stand alone" projects whilst others such as Scotia, Great Northern Plains and Offshore are linked together, such that they each form part of a major resource area.
The mining strategy to be adopted by Van Dieman Australia is for it to use the funds raised by the Company from the Placing to commence mining the Scotia and Central Ringarooma resources simultaneously. Mine start up is scheduled within 12 months.

Following an independent technical review resources measuring in excess of 100 million cubic metres of alluvial sediments have been delineated within the Scotia, Central Ringarooma and Great Northern Plains areas. Of these 11.5 million cubic metres contained in the Scotia and Central Ringarooma project areas are considered to represent measured mineral resources which the Directors believe can be immediately developed and economically exploited. In addition these project areas are considered to contain a further 27.5 million cubic metres classified as inferred mineral resources and with ongoing exploration it is anticipated these will become measured mineral resources. Onshore, on the Great Northern Plains, a measured mineral resource of 40 million cubic metres has been delineated. Further areas immediately adjoining this resource are estimated to contain in excess of 39 million cubic metres. Offshore, extending into Bass Strait a tin mineralised zone of some 200 million cubic metres has been delineated.
The data that is available from previous exploration programmes conducted on the Great Northern Plains, Offshore and within other licence areas confirms the presence of tin with associated heavy mineral and gem based mineralisation. Additional exploration and drilling to be undertaken should prove up these resources and may confirm their economic viability.
