Company Statement
Stratex International is an exploration and development (E&D) company focusing on gold and other high-value base metals. The company objective is to be a leading-edge and innovative explorer whilst creating revenue from gold and base metal production via well-managed joint-ventures.
Formed in 2004, the company has been positioned to take advantage of the current paucity of exploration activities and the resultant projected shortage in supply of precious and base metals. Since formation, Stratex has rapidly amassed a portfolio of high-potential exploration licences in central and western Turkey. Three of these have been the focus of drilling and, with the optioning of a new property, Altintepe, Stratex now possesses a total resource of slightly more than 841,000 oz of gold.
The strategic intent is to maximize shareholder value through the continuing development of this focused portfolio. Revenues will be generated by developing the defined resources into mines in collaboration with strategic partner Teck Cominco Limited. However, should the mineral resource not meet Teck Comincos operational criteria then either a joint venture would be sought with another appropriate mining company or the resource would be sold to a third party whilst retaining a net smelter royalty.
Stratex has a UK-based board of directors, including a Chairman, CEO, CFO and two non- executive directors with a head office in London. The Turkish operations are managed from offices in Ankara and include the Country General Manager plus two senior Project Managers and a strong team of geologists.
Current Operations
Stratex has rapidly developed a portfolio of high-priority prospects in Turkey that require drilling to evaluate the resource potential. The current project portfolio is focused on gold targets in Turkey and covers ten licence blocks, totalling approximately 1,513 km2:-
- Inlice:
Exploration drilling at the Discovery and Bati Zones has not proved particularly encouraging however the Merkez zone is still being drilled. The first drill holes into the Merkez Zone confirmed the presence of a weakly altered porphyry body with drill hole INDD-31 returning 254 m grading 0.05 g/t gold and highest values of 0.128 g/t Au and 0.017 % Mo.
To further investigate the concealed parts of the Inlice licence area on the basis that the best grades and widths of silica mineralization identified to date lie beneath the soil-covered Gap area, the Company commissioned ground-based magnetic and induced polarization geophysical surveys. The resulting data defined an extensive zone of low magnetism (blue in Fig. 6) underlying much of the central part of the licence area and is interpreted to indicate that widespread hydrothermal activity resulted in destruction of magnetite (iron oxide) in the host volcanic rocks. Within this wide area of low magnetism the Merkez Zone is clearly defined as a magnetic-high area, a physical response that is commonly associated with the magnetite-rich parts of porphyry gold systems. - Doğanbey: Stratex and Teck Cominco are currently reviewing results from a recently completed airborne geophysical (magnetic survey), along with the geology, wallrock alteration, and geochemical data, with a view to prioritising new targets to be brought to the drill stage in Q2/Q3 2008.
- Altintepe: A multi-occurrence prospect comprising a number of discrete gold-bearing zones. A declared NI 43-101 resource of 311,543 oz gold is now the focus of both further resource drilling and exploration drilling. Stratex/Teck Cominco are applying a new geological model to upgrade and define new resources.
- Muratdere: A porphyry gold-copper-molybdenum occurrence that is exposed over an area of approximately 4,000 m x 5,00 m. Encouraging results from early drilling returned a best intersection to date of 284.7 metres grading 0.30% copper.
- Karaağaç: A partially exposed, gently dipping gold-bearing zone, extending over an area of approximately 3.5km2. Drilling has identified a resource of approximately 6,389,011 t @ 0.78 g/t gold for a total of 156,798 oz gold. A joint venture partner is being sought to extend the resource and undertake feasibility studies, with a view to mid-term production.
A programme of diamond and RC drilling was completed in May 2007 which defined an inferred mineral resource of 156,798 oz Au. The Company are currently evaluating how to proceed with the project and are considering further work and/or a joint venture. - Altunhisar: Located 260 SE of Ankara and 200 km east of the Konya Volcanic Belt. Ongoing exploration has defined seven areas of alteration linked to epithermal mineralization, ranging from 7.5 to 16 km2. These are Kitreli, Karanlikdere, Balci, Çömlekci, Basobasi, Tepeköy, and Murtaza.
The Altunhisar property comprises Miocene andesitic volcanics which are overlain by Pliocene lavas. Steeply dipping quartz-alunite and quartz-kaolinite silica ledges (mostly trending NW), locally massive and chalcedonic silica ledges (also trending NW), and zones of supergene kaolinitized andesitic lavas have all been observed within these altered zones. - Öksüt: Stratexs latest high-sulphidation (HS) gold discovery in Central Anatolia, located 25 km south of Develi and 70 km south of Kayseri. It is a new 109.4 km2 licence area with the key licence acquired in October 2007. This key licence, Ortaçam Tepe, was targeted on the basis of significant gold grades (including 0.93 g/t Au over 25 m) yielded from rock samples obtained during 2007.
