MINING COMPANY WITH SUBSTANTIAL PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT ASSETS IN LESOTHO
Lesotho
Liqhobong Project
The Company’s Liqhobong diamond project is located in the Maluti Mountains, 120 km North East of Maseru, the capital of Lesotho.
The Liqhobong Project covers an area of 390 hectare and is situated at an elevation of 2,600 meters, making it the second highest producing diamond mine in the world.
The two most important kimberlites within the licence area are the Satellite and Main Pipes.
Kopane owns through its subsidiary Liqhobong Mining Development Company “LMDC”, a 75% interest in the Liqhobong project. The remaining 25% is owned by the Government of Lesotho “GoL”.
The Company holds a 20 year mining license with the GoL to mine the Satellite and Main Pipes.
The Company is currently mining the Satellite Pipe through a 60tph DMS Plant on site. The plant is now producing at a rate approaching 180,000 carats per annum.
In 2007 the Company completed a Pre-Feasibility Study (“PFS”) on the much larger Main Pipe which demonstrated the economic viability of the Project to PFS confidence limits.
Definitive Feasibility Project
Kopane has now begun the Definitive Feasibility Study (“DFS”) which includes both wide diameter and diamond drilling as well as bulk sampling and this is expected to be completed in Q4 of 2008.
The PFS was audited by ACA Howe International who concluded that it had been carried out to a high standard with conservative design, operating and revenue parameters and that the project is technically and financially robust. ACA Howe also considered that the project has three operating upsides:
• Resource Size (mineralisation extends below current extraction model)
• Grade (the most recent bulk sample of 14,000 tonnes returned a grade of
0.41 cpt)
• Diamond Values (recovery of bonanza stones should increase realizable price
per carat).
Diamond Sales
Kopane has sold approximately 240,000 carats since March 2006 for approx US$ 12.8 million. This includes the 27.7 ct D colour diamond which was sold for
approximately US$ 750,000.
Finland
In January 2008, Kopane formed a joint venture with Mantle Diamonds to operate, finance and develop Kopane’s diamond exploration assets in Finland.
The Company holds 28 mineral exploration claims and reservations in Finland, (29,000 hectares).
Exploration over the past 6 years has consistently demonstrated the potential for diamond discovery and development. Mantle will acquire up to 70% of the Finnish assets for £2m of Mantle shares and a $5m spend on the properties.
Preparations for the extraction of a bulk sample at the Lahtojoki project in central Finland have been completed and processing is expected to begin Mid year after an environmental permit has been issued.
