Minco is a London listed (AIM Market: MIO) mining exploration and development company with base metal and silver projects in Mexico and an exploration joint venture with Xstrata for zinc and lead in Ireland.
The company’s management has an established track record of discovering, developing and operating mines world-wide and this expertise is now directed to turning Minco into a production company.
Bilbao Project, Zacatecas Mining District, Mexico
In March, 2007, Minco announced the completion of an independent pre-feasibility study on its Bilbao project in Zacatecas, Mexico. The study shows that an underground zinc / lead / silver mining operation generates attractive returns at conservative metal prices. Minco will proceed to a bankable study in order to move Bilbao into mine development as quickly as possible.
Laguna Zacatecana Silver Tailings Project , Mexico
The Laguna tailings re‑treatment project is located on the outskirts of the city of Zacatecas, Mexico. The project area contains a Canadian NI 43‑101 compliant resource of some 32 million ozs of silver equivalent within some 9 million tonnes of old mine waste tailings which accumulated as a result of historic mining during the Spanish colonial period. Tightening of international environmental requirements under the “Equator Principles” during 2006 has prompted Minco to undertake a review of the Laguna project to ensure that it selects a mining and processing route which fully addresses these issues prior to making a final development decision.
Pallas Green Zinc, Ireland
Minco’s owns 23.6% of the Pallas Green exploration project in joint venture with Xstrata Zinc, which runs the project. The Pallas Green licences, totalling 294 square kilometres, are located on the southern boundary of the Irish Midland orefield between Limerick and Tipperary. Drilling to date has resulted in the discovery of two small sulphide lenses at Castlegarde and of three major lenses at Tobermalug, Caherconlish South, and Srahane West. Recent drilling in borehole 636-55 encountered an intersection of 2.25 metres at an average grade of 25.8% zinc and 8.7% lead.
