Northern Lion Gold Looks For A Reason to Roar
Located 64 kilometres south of Turkey and 97 kilometres west of Syria, Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and is considered largely under-explored, despite a history of mineral exploitation that dates back to the Bronze Age. Indeed in many languages its very name, Kupros, or Kypros, has a certain affinity to our modern word “copper”. That’s no co-incidence, as the Romans derived their word from the metal from one of their primary sources – Cyprus. Fast forward a couple of thousand years, and Cyprus is a member of the EU, and is beginning to resolve some of the issues surrounding the historic quarrel between the native Greeks and Turks.
Just the sort of place for a junior explorer to get stuck in on the ground and enjoy a first-mover advantage. EMED Mining’s been having a look around for a year or so, but the latest to join the party is Canadian-listed Northern Lion Gold, which also holds properties in Portugal and Sweden, and which acquired its Cyprus tenement in June.
