Kiwara’s Copper Hunt in Zambia
Northern Zambia is copper country so it is a little surprising to discover that RST explored a piece of ground for nickel up there at Kalumbila during the forties and fifties. The nickel was the reason that Aim-traded Kiwara picked up the ground when the company was formed through a reverse takeover last year. And, on the basis of an historic resource of several million tonnes, with grades of up to 0.88% nickel and 0.15% copper, there’s plenty there for the company to get its teeth into. Chief Executive Officer Peter Vivian-Neal was kind enough to break off from the festivities at Indaba to give Minews a detailed background to the formation of the company and an update on where it is now.
The nickel resource is related to a shear zone close to the Kalumbila fault, at an inflexion point about two thirds of the way along a 10 kilometre east-west trending structure. The data and core from the original programme is still available and has formed the basis for the expanded exploration programme. A ground electro-magnetic survey discovered that the structure turned north and split into two “horns”, as Peter describes it, giving a total strike length of 18 kilometres.
