Kiwara’s Copper And Uranium Exploration Activities Could Help Open Up An Underexplored Part Of Zambia’s Copperbelt
Kiwara’s purpose when it was set up was simple. According to chief executive and 16 per cent shareholder Peter Vivian-Neal, the idea was: “to look for an opportunity in southern Africa in base metals”. A couple of deals later, and add uranium into that equation, and you have a pretty accurate summary of the current shape of Kiwara. The company has thus far focused on Zambia, with a specific interest in the Kambombo Dome in north western Zambia, an area which Mr Vivian-Neal refers to as the “new” copperbelt.
This statement is pregnant with possibilities. Not a million miles away - but certainly over hill and over dale - to the west lies the country’s prolific and world-famous copperbelt, which we can perhaps now deem the “old” copperbelt. Famous names like Ndola, Solwezi, Mufulira and Kitwe run along the Congolese border, from about 100 kilometres east of Kiwara’s properties.
