For Jubilee Platinum South Africa’s Power Problems Have A Silver Lining
“I never dreamt of platinum at these prices”, says Colin Bird, chief executive of Jubilee Platinum. That’s saying something, because if there’s such a thing as a platinum bug, Colin Bird is it. Over the years he’s been relentlessly bullish on the metal, but now it’s gone way beyond even where he thought it would, we are in uncharted territory. The flip side, of course is power.
Jubilee is developing the Tjate project on the eastern Bushveld, downdip from Impala’s Merula mine, and Anglo’s Twickenham mine. A bankable feasibility study is due by the end of the year, and in the interim, investors should find plenty of news to whet their appetites as drill results are likely to come out on a regular basis, and as Mr Bird says, “we’ll be looking towards financing by mid-year”. But in recent weeks, he says, all the questions he’s been getting have been to do with power. <br...
