EMED Mining Is Confident That Permits For Rio Tinto Will Be Close To Completion By The End Of September
It’s all about the permitting for Harry Anagnostaras-Adams at the moment. As managing director of EMED Mining, he’s been keen all year to get the show on the road for EMED’s big re-start of the old Rio Tinto mine in Spain. But the project, as has been well-known all along, is mired in legal complexities, and not a few disputes. The unions are weighing in too, though, believe it or not, they are actually weighing in on EMED’s side, so, as Harry points out, that gives some idea as to the level of support there is for getting Rio Tinto back up and running.
“We’re very confident we’ll break the back of the permitting around the end of September”, says Mr Adams. And given that the plant and tailings facility are intact, that there’s a million tonnes contained copper in the measured and indicated categories and 600,000 contained copper in proven and probable reserves, and that the whole project is ticking over on care and maintenance, permitting at the end of this month could mean first production as soon as early next year.
