A Gold-Bug’s Starter-Pack, Courtesy of Peter Hambro
If there’s such a thing as a starter pack for a gold-bug, a good example is to be found in a small black box in an office some way along Grosvenor Place, across the road from the rather forbidding walls that keep the hoi poloi out of the Queen’s garden. It’s from here that mining magnate Peter Hambro runs his Russian business interests, working out of an office tastefully decorated by the work of a well-known artist and by all the trophies and trinkets that have served to mark the staging posts of what, so far, has been a fairly illustrious career.
The gold-bug starter pack comes out fairly late on in the conversation, and is not referred to as such by Mr Hambro himself - it’s just Minesite’s idea of a good headline. Peter Hambro, past master at keeping the market informed, regular commentator on Radio 4’s flagship Today Programme, member of the advisory council to the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce, is simply providing an update on operations, following the release of his company’s annual report on 19th May.
