Avocet is a mining company listed on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange. The Company's principal activities are gold mining and exploration in Malaysia (as 100% owner of the Penjom mine, the country's largest gold producer) and Indonesia (as 80% owner of the North Lanut gold mine in North Sulawesi).
As at July 2007, Avocet held an undiluted interest of approximately 27% of Dynasty Gold Corporation ("Dynasty") and has recently aquired a 19% interest in Monument Mining Limited. Both companies are listed on the TSX Venture Exchange in Canada.
Indonesia – North Lanut/Bakan
The North Lanut gold mine is located within the Mongondow CoW, which includes exploration and mining rights over approximately 50,000 hectares in North Sulawesi.
Bakan is the Company's newest development project with considerable exploration potential for high-sulphidation epithermail mineralisation. To date, Avocet has proven up Measured, Indicated and Inferred Resources of 519,000 ounces of gold in two epithermal deposits, Durian and Osela. Ongoing exploration has identified several more prospective targets within two kilometres of the Durian and Osela deposits.
Pending the successsful completion of a feasibility study in Q3 2008, construction of a dump leach mine at Bakan will commence with first gold production targeted for December 2008.
Malaysia – Penjom
The Penjom Gold Mine is located in the State of Pahang in the centre of Peninsular Malaysia and is Malaysia's largest gold producer. Penjom commenced production in December 1996 and has produced over 100,000 ounces of gold per year for the last five years. The mine was developed by Avocet Gold Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Avocet Mining PLC, with the support of the Pahang State Development Corporation.
Continued resource definition drilling at Penjom is expected to continue to increase the mine life from the existing JORC resource of 1,024,400 oz, as announced in October 2006.
