Current Operations

Lace Project
The Lace project is located 20km from Kroonstad in the Free State Province of South Africa.

The project contains an estimated 14 million carats of diamonds in tailings and kimberlite. Additional kimberlites have been identified on the group's adjoining properties.

Phased development is being undertaken comprising initial tailings retreatment followed by mining of the remaining kimberlite, which has been drilled to a depth of 855m.

Lace Tailings Retreatment Project
The Lace tailings project involves the re-treatment of 3.6 million tonnes of tailings from diamond mining operations at Lace between 1902 and 1931.

Bulk testing of 100,000 tonnes of tailings revealed approximately 10.3 carats per hundred tonnes can be recovered from the tailings using a modern dense media separation plant.

The DMS plant has been designed by Consulmet (Pty) Limited in Johannesburg, and is capable of treating 1.6 million tonnes per annum. The plant size has been designed to optimise the tailings resource then, after addition of a primary crushing circuit, will be used as the treatment plant for mining of the Lace kimberlites.

Lace Underground Project
The Lace kimberlites project involves re-establishing mining operations on the unmined portions of the Lace kimberlites.

Mining operations at Lace between 1902 and 1931 removed 4.5 million tonnes of kimberlite through open pitting to 100m depth and partial chambering to 240m depth. The historical head grade is estimated to be 27 cpht.

Drilling has established that the Lace kimberlites (main and satellite pipes) extend to 855m depth and remain open. Drilling also discovered that a hypabyssal kimberlite grading an estimated 60 cpht becomes volumetrically dominant at depth.

Bulk testing of the unmined portion of the kimberlite is planned to be completed in 2008. The results of this bulk test will be incorporated in a feasibility study on recommencing mining of the Lace kimberlites following completion of the Lace tailings re-treatment project.
