Anvil Mining is the leading copper producer in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Company's success, since first production in 2002, has been based on responsible development, community partnerships and continued improvement in shareholder value.
Anvil has a clear and achievable growth strategy supported by high grade resources. The Company plans to more than double copper production from 40,000 tonnes in 2007 to over 100,000 tonnes per annum in 2010; at the same time investing in downstream processing to add value to the Company's products.
The Company has two established mining and processing operations at Dikulushi and Kulu. Kinsevere was commissioned during the first week of June 2007, producing the first copper concentrates on June 9, 2007.
Anvil is listed on the Toronto (TSX) and the Australian (ASX) stock exchanges under the symbol AVM. The common shares of Anvil also trade on the Berlin Stock Exchange under the security code number A0B5NR.
Operations
Dikulushi
The cornerstone of Anvil’s operations since first production in 2002, is currently producing 20,000 tonnes of contained copper and 1.8 million ounces of silver a year from its operation near Lake Mweru in Katanga. The mine is in transition from open pit to underground operations. Dikulushi ore is processed in a flotation concentrator at the site.
Kulu
A tailings re-treatment operation based on coarse reject material from the former Mutoshi mine near Kolwezi. Kulu produced 19,956 tonnes of copper in the 2006 calendar year – the project’s first year of production.
Kinsevere
Set to become the flagship of Anvil’s DRC operations. Stage I began production in June 2007. The $35 million project involves the construction of an open pit mining operation, a heavy media separation plant and an electric arc furnace.
Development Projects
Kinsevere
Stage II will incorporate a solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX-EW) processing plant to produce 60,000 tonnes a year of pure cathode copper. Construction of the $238 million second stage is expected to begin in the second half of 2007.
Although Kinsevere is the Company’s major current development project, Anvil is also considering options for value adding at Kulu and mining development at Mutoshi.
Key exploration projects
Mutoshi
One of the great African copperbelt mining locations, where Anvil’s exploration and resource assessment programs aim to identify a resource of half a million tonnes of copper. The resource would underpin a SX-EW project. Current feasibility studies are looking at the potential for production from 2010.
