Altius is a natural resource project generation and royalty business based in the province of Newfoundland & Labrador.
Altius asset portfolio includes strategic equity and/or royalty stakes in two mining exploration and development company's it co-founded; Aurora Energy Resources (TSX:AXU) and Rambler Metals and Mining Plc. (TSX-V:RAB). It also has a lucrative royalty interest in the world-class Voisey's Bay nickel district in Labrador, Canada and a substantial stake in Newfoundland and Labrador Refining Corporation (NLRC).
The Company also boasts a strong treasury position in excess of $170 million providing it the financial strength to pursue and foster further investment opportunities in natural resources and maintains exposure to gold, base metals, and uranium through a varied exploration portfolio that is largely funded by joint venture partners.
While Altius continues to actively generate concepts and projects for traditional metal deposits it is now also focused on generating energy related resource opportunities in Canada.
LABRADOR NICKEL ROYALTY LIMITED PARTNERSHIP
Voisey's Bay Royalty
Altius owns a 10% interest in the Labrador Nickel Royalty Limited Partnership (LNRLP), which owns a 3% net smelter return (NSR) royalty in the Voisey's Bay nickel district.
Altius' royalty entitles it to a share of revenues less certain costs incurred after concentrates leave the mine site for final processing. The costs of mining or onsite processing are not deducted from our share of revenues. CVRD INCO's most recent estimated cost of nickel production, net of byproduct credits and subject to sensitivity analyzed disparities that include its cost of energy, is $0.90 per pound.
The acquisition of this royalty is strategic to Altius both from the perspective of its inherent attributes as well as the positive impact it will have on Altius' existing exploration business.
2006 was the first full year of mining operations at Voisey's Bay and Altius realized in excess of $4 million in revenues. At current nickel prices revenues of ~$1 M per quarter are anticipated.
CENTRAL MINERAL BELT URANIUM - AURORA ENERGY
As part of a longer-term business strategy the alliance was optimally restructured in June 2005 to create a new special purpose company, Aurora Energy Resources Inc., to own and fund the next phases of exploration. In March 2006 Aurora successfully completed a $25 million initial public offering ("IPO") and commenced trading on the TSX exchange under the symbol AXU. Altius believes that a dedicated "pure" uranium company with premium uranium assets will ensure Altius' shareholding in Aurora captures the maximum value of these assets.
Altius maintains an underlying 2% gross uranium sales royalty and a 2% net smelter return royalty on base and precious metals that are produced from Aurora's projects.
