Company Statement
Built by leading mine-finders and developers, Northland Resources is preparing to supply iron, copper and gold to Europe's metal-hungry markets. In Sweden and Finland, we control one of the continent's last major undeveloped iron ore provinces. Iron ore is essential to steel fabrication, a key element of European heavy industry. Our proximity to these markets provides a compelling economic advantage to our projects.
The Company aims to establish itself as a mining company with iron, copper and gold production on the doorstep of the major industrial manufacturing regions of Europe Northland's senior management have been involved in the discovery and/or construction of at least 8 mines.
Iron, Copper and Gold for Europe
Our vision at Northland is to develop into a leading exploration and mining company. Towards that goal, we have acquired controlling interests in a portfolio of quality iron, copper and gold projects in Sweden and Finland. These assets give us control of one of Europe's last major undeveloped iron-copper-gold provinces and direct access to the continent's growing industrial markets.
Distinguished Team of Mining and Exploration Talent
Successful mining projects require top talent. That's why we've brought together proven mine finders, developers, engineers and financiers with worldwide accomplishments and experience.
Our Strategy
Our strategy is to acquire properties with prior exploration investment in politically stable countries, then advance those assets to a "develop or vend" decision. We are presently exploring and developing several iron, copper and gold properties that meet our criteria. Four projects are advanced, two of them have established resources. The balance are early-stage iron oxide-copper-gold targets.
Well-Funded
We raised more than C$150 million in 2006-2007, giving us sufficient capital to complete feasibility studies on our key projects and to begin the process of ordering long-lead time capital items.

Tapuli
Location: Norrbotten Province, Northern Sweden
Minerals: Iron
Ownership: 100% ownership of an exploration permit
Status: Late Stage Exploration/Early Stage Development - Moving Toward Production
- Tapuli is an advanced project with a defined NI43-101 magnetite resource 5km from the Stora Sahavaara magnetite deposit in Norrbotten District, northern Sweden. The resource, modeled using a cut off of 15.0% Fe, is:
- Total Indicated resources are 54.4 million tonnes with an average grade of 27.7 % Fe.
- Total Inferred resources are 47.6 million tonnes with an average grade of 26.3 % Fe.
Northland has systematically drill tested the magnetite body using large diameter core where possible. Our geologists have also re-logged and re-sampled the historic core stored in the SGU core archive. The large diameter core also provided sufficient material for initial metallurgical test work.
Northland's 2007 drilling program added 37 holes for a total of 5,697 meters. All the drill holes were integrated into the current database, which contained a total of 5,603 iron analyses. Two historic drill holes were twinned to verify lithological and assay reliability with good correlation.
Because the Tapuli-area deposits had been explored previously, Northland was able to move directly to in-fill and deeper hole drilling and did not undertake any significant mapping or surface sampling, nor additional detailed geochemical surveys
Stora SahavaaraLocation: Norrbotten Province, Northern Sweden
Minerals: Iron
Ownership: 100% ownership of an exploration permit
Status: Exploration, bulk sampling completed -- scoping study commenced
Stora Sahaavara, one of Northland's key assets, is an advanced project containing a potentially significant iron (magnetite) ore body. Its size and mineral content make it one of few such projects in Europe. The property lies within 150 kilometers of Western Europe's only major iron mines, Kiruna and Malmberget, owned by the Swedish state mining company LKAB. Stora Sahaavara belongs to the same broad class of mineral deposits as Kiruna and Malmberget (i.e., Iron-Oxide-Copper-Gold or IOCG). It is also within 20km of a rail head.
HannukainenLocation: Kolari district, Northern Finland
Minerals: Iron Oxide-Copper-Gold
Ownership: 100% ownership of an exploration permit
Status: Advanced exploration with established deposit
A former iron-copper-gold producer, Hannukainen is actually a cluster of five deposits at various depths: Laurinoja, Kuervaara, Lauku, Vuopio and Kivivuopio. Laurinoja and Kuervaara were mined as an open pit during the 1980s. The mine is reported to have produced 4.5 Mt at a grade of 43% Fe, 0.88% Cu and 1 g/t Au. Northland acquired the deposit by staking in 2005, and has since focused on exploring for additional economic copper and gold mineralization within the magnetite resource. In mid-2007, Northland defined a major NI 43-101 compliant resource at Hannukainen with expansion potential. Northland's advanced exploration is focused on completing the work required for the design and construction of a large mining operation at Hannukainen to produce a magnetite (iron ore) pellet feed with a copper-gold concentrate by-product. The area is within 15 km of a rail line.
Northland believes its Hannukainen resource is likely to grow as it continues to drill. For example, a number of drill holes with ore grade intersections, which were drilled outside of the new resource area, were not included in the NI 43-101 estimate. In addition, there are deeper targets that will be tested in the future.
Exploration ProjectsKuervitikkoLocation: Kolari district, Northern Finland
Minerals: Iron Oxide-Copper-Gold
Ownership: 100% ownership of an exploration permit
Northland's drilling program outlined a potentially large zone of IOCG mineralization, approximately 25m thick on average, but ranging up to nearly 100m locally. Mineralization is horizontal or dips moderately to the west-southwest. The depth of mineralization ranges from 15-20m in the east where it sub-crops beneath the till, to 80-100m down dip in the west. A strike length of approximately 1,000m has been identified by drilling. An interpretation of an aerial magnetic survey indicates the potential of a strike length of approximately 2,300m.
PellivuomaLocation: Norrbotten Province, Northern Sweden
Minerals: Iron
Ownership: Northland 100% ownership of exploration permit
The deposit is beneath 6m to 13m of cover, mostly bogs. The SGU reports that Pellivuoma occurs in the same stratigraphic position as the Stora Sahavaara and Tapuli magnetite deposits.
During 2007, Northland acquired and began reviewing all historical data. In early 2008, Northland initiated a drill program to verify the historical data and expand the known size of the Pellivuoma body. Two twin holes will be drilled to verify historical results. Old drill holes will be re-logged and if needed re-sampled. In total, seven drill holes are planned with an estimated length of 1,400 meters, although the program may change as results are known
.
Saarijarvi / LannavaaraLocation: Northern Sweden
Minerals: Iron Oxide-Copper-Gold
Ownership: Variable JV (possible 100%) w/ back-in rights
The Lannavaara and Saarijarvi properties offer attractive targets for the discovery of iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) mineralization. IOCG deposits are sought by many mining companies around the world. Some of the largest mineral deposits in the world, including Olympic Dam in Australia and Kiruna in Sweden, belong to this class of deposits.
We acquired our interests in Lannavaara and Saarijarvi from Anglo American Exploration ("AAE"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Anglo American plc, in December 2005. The licenses were acquired initially by AAE for their IOCG potential. As Anglo's exploration focus shifted away from copper exploration, the opportunity arose for Northland to joint venture the Lannavaara and Saarijarvi licenses.
SalimivaaraLocation: Gällivare, (Norrbotten County) northern Sweden
Minerals: Iron and Copper
Ownership: Northland: 100% ownership of exploration permit
In late 2007, Northland initiated a drill program to verify the historical data and expand the known size of the Salmivaara body. Six diamond core holes were drilled that had a combined length of 1,780m. The drill holes encountered multiple intersections of magnetite, with maximum downhole thickness of nearly 150m with an average downhole thickness of a little more than 50m. The results of Northland's work support and build on results of the SGU's historic work, and include the following highlights:
- Hole 07001 42.8% Fe + 0.12% Cu over 52.7m from 15.3m downhole
- Hole 07004 35.5% Fe + 0.10% Cu over 53.9m from 41m downhole
- Hole 07005 46.5% Fe + 0.12% Cu over 49.2m from 97.8m downhole
- Hole 07006 35.3% Fe + 0.12% Cu over 147.3m from 89.9m downhole
In April 2008, Northland plans to start drilling seven holes totalling 2,300m to further define the Salmivaara magnetite bodies.
BarseleLocation: Skellefteå district, Northern Sweden
Minerals: Gold
Ownership: 100%
Our Barsele-Norra project lies in Sweden's rich Skellefteå mineralised belt, where at least 80 gold deposits have been discovered over the years. Originally explored under joint venture, we acquired 100% of Barsele in 2005 and focused our exploration on expanding the resource. Based on the 50 diamond drill holes completed since, combined with results from previous operators, we have defined a significant, NI 43-101 compliant gold resource (using a cut-off grade of 0.7 g/t Au):
Indicated
- 7,624,627 tonnes @ 1.60 g/t Au, or 393,324 contained oz.
Inferred
- 9,206,020 tonnes @ 1.51 g/t Au, or 437,041 contained oz.
Exploration will continue through 2007. Our geologists plan approximately 8,000m of core drilling. Our immediate goal is to increase the combined resource to over 1 million ounces. We plan to accomplish this goal by:
1. Upgrading the confidence level in the existing resource calculation; converting inferred resources to indicated resources;
2. Adding new gold resources that lie outside the existing resource.
