Corriente Resources Inc. is a Canadian-based resource development and exploration company specializing in copper and copper-gold opportunities. The company's main focus is its 100% owned Corriente Copper Belt in Ecuador. Corriente has a completed feasibility study and an approved Environmental Impact Assessment on an initial starter operation at its Mirador copper-gold deposit. Corriente looks to expand operations at Mirador past the starter project and from other locations in the Corriente Copper Belt.
Corriente controls a 100% interest in over 50,000 hectares located within the Corriente Copper Belt. The Belt extends over a 20 x 80 kilometre area in southeast Ecuador and is one of the only new undeveloped copper districts available in the world today. The Belt currently contains three copper and copper-gold porphyry deposits: Mirador, Panantza and San Carlos, as well as the Mirador Norte prospect currently under development. Additional exploration activities will be ongoing, as six additional copper and copper-gold exploration targets have been identified in the Corriente Copper Belt to date.
A key attribute of the company is that development of the 100% owned Corriente Copper Belt can be scalable. This enables a modest investment to open up the district, with growth to be financed largely from cash flow, creating South America's next major producing copper district.
Corriente has completed a feasibility study with prime consultant AMEC Americas Limited and subsequent optimization work on its starter operation at the Mirador deposit. This 25,000 tonne-per-day (tpd) starter operation will produce approximately 131,000,000 pounds of copper, 32,000 ounces of gold and 398,000 ounces of silver annually over the first five years of a 38 year mine life. Phase two at Mirador could see the operation double in output to 50,000 tpd.
Combined resources at the Panantza and San Carlos deposits to the north of Mirador are approximately 1.1 billion tonnes grading above 0.63% copper and are available for an additional large tonnage operation in the district.
Corriente specializes in projects within major copper belts of the world. The current projects are in the Andean copper belt extending from Argentina to Ecuador, along the west coast of South America.
