Chromex Mining plc, a dedicated chrome company established to acquire, control and expand chromite mining and processing facilities with the intention of building a resource base in excess of 100 million tonnes.
Chromex's primary focus is the Mecklenburg Project, situated on the Eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, an area with a long history of chromite mining. Chromex SA, the Group's 74% owned subsidiary, holds a "New Order Rights" Prospecting Right over Mecklenburg with the remaining 26% owned by Umnotho weSizwe, approved under South African legislation as a Black Empowerment Partner.
The Mecklenburg Project
The Company’s application for a Mining Right in respect of the Mecklenburg chromite deposit has been formally accepted by the Department of Minerals and Energy of the Republic of South Africa (“DME”). The acceptance sets out a timetable for the submission of further documents required by the DME.
Chromex is the holder of the New Order Prospecting Right over Mecklenburg and the conversion of this to a mining right is automatic under South African law, subject to the submission of the required documentation with respect to social and labour, environmental and mining plans.
Notwithstanding this, the DME has informed Chromex that another application has been submitted for a mining right at Mecklenburg . Chromex is pursuing judicial administrative proceedings to have the other application set aside.
Chromex will continue to process documentation in connection with the mining right application.
Stellite Project
Chromex Mining plc has entered into a binding Heads of Agreement with Mkhombi Stellite (Pty) Ltd (“Mkhombi”) whereby Mkhombi will vend 100% of its chrome assets into Chromex’s South African subsidiary Chromex Mining (Pty) Ltd.
The Mining Right will facilitate the fast track development of the Stellite opencast resources, which will significantly reduce the Company’s timeline to production. In terms of the agreement Chromex has secured the current management team to ensure continuity in the development of this asset.
The transaction is conditional on a successful due diligence, consent from the South African Department of Minerals and Energy (“DME”) related to the change of control in Ilitha and the waiver of pre-emptive rights by the remaining minority Ilitha shareholders.
