Minco is a precious and base metals exploration and development company with zinc exploration in Ireland and zinc-silver investment in Mexico held through a 60% shareholding in Orca Minerals Limited which has recently applied for a listing on the TSX Venture Exchange (Toronto) under the new name of Xtierra Resources Ltd. Minco is listed on London’s AIM stock exchange, symbol: MIO.
The company's main focus is the development of the Pallas Green zinc project from the advanced exploration phase through to the development and production phases while participating in the growth of Xtierra Inc. projects in Mexico.
Minco's Strategy
Minco’s goal is to become a significant zinc producer mainly through the advancement of its projects in Ireland but also seeking other advanced stage projects in other locations around the world.
Minco's strategy is to develop projects that meet pre-defined criteria, which include the ability to achieve near-term production. Minco’s criteria are rigorous and include:
Bilbao Project, Zacatecas Mining District, Mexico
In March, 2007, Minco announced the completion of an independent pre-feasibility study on its Bilbao project in Zacatecas, Mexico. The study shows that an underground zinc / lead / silver mining operation generates attractive returns at conservative metal prices. Minco will proceed to a bankable study in order to move Bilbao into mine development as quickly as possible.
Laguna Zacatecana Silver Tailings Project , Mexico
The Laguna tailings re- treatment project is located on the outskirts of the city of Zacatecas, Mexico. Micon International, of Toronto, completed a feasibility study on the 1.2 million tonne a year operation to recover silver and mercury from 7.9 million tonnes (measured and indicated resource) grading 58.8g/t silver, 0.31g/t gold and 318g/t mercury. This resource contains approximately 15 million ounces silver (30.39 million ounces silver equivalent).
Over a 7 year project life the project would produce 390,000 kilograms of silver and 2,349,000 kilograms of mercury.
Pallas Green Zinc, Ireland
Minco’s owns 23.6% of the Pallas Green exploration project in joint venture with Xstrata Zinc, which runs the project. The Pallas Green licences, totalling 294 square kilometres, are located on the southern boundary of the Irish Midland orefield between Limerick and Tipperary. Drilling to date has resulted in the discovery of two small sulphide lenses at Castlegarde and of three major lenses at Tobermalug, Caherconlish South, and Srahane West. Recent drilling in borehole 636-55 encountered an intersection of 2.25 metres at an average grade of 25.8% zinc and 8.7% lead.
During 2007, about 16,000 metres of drilling was completed with a total expenditure of €1.7 million . For 2008, the budget has be expanded to €6.0 million, of which Minco's share is approximately €1.4 million, and the planned drilling.
